Project Hostel by Prabodh -Posted on 18 Aug 2009
The rampant corruption has been highlighted through the case of one Anoop Awasthi who was refused a seat in the PG Men’s Hostel, DU in spite of securing an excellent rank and being eligible on all grounds. He wasted precious time and energy and had to undergo the trauma and frustration of fighting for a hostel seat, which too was denied to him after a long struggle with the authorities and the judicial system. More so, in the case of a student who has no other support in Delhi.
The court has not shown any sympathy for a helpless student, and the last hearing has forced him to find lodging with a friend as he lost the case for a seat in the PG Men’s Hostel. This campaign aims to not only garner support for him, but also brings to the fore the money-making, self serving, utilitarian policies of the authorities.
We intend to provide support and a platform to raise a voice for any other students who have faced similar problems, or believe that their hostel policies, administration, condition of the hostels, needs to be changed. As part of the campaign, active blogs publicising Anoop’s story, as well as encouraging others with similar stories to stand up, have been started on Wordpress and Ning. Communities have been created on Facebook and Orkut for the same.
There will be collaboration with other NGOs to gain more support, and a press release will be made in the final stage of the campaign.
